Cockatiel Help..........?

I have a beautiful Cockatiel named Linkin. He's a wonderful bird, but I need tips on training him to be quiet and not chirp so loud when we can't give him attention. Like when I'm doing my homework, he would chirp for minutes. My parents are threatening to get rid of him if I'm unable to train him. I don't want to give him away, help?
